Oostende is my birth place, so there are certainly much photos of it.
De Haan is also my favorite place and ofcourse very interesting to shoot when I am there.

Forests and Trees

Trees are like people, soms trees don't get along and some trees do very much.
The look of the Forest is never the same.
Trees can trick you too :-)
This is a collection which I find are worthy to put on the net and to be showed to the world instead of rotten away on my computer.

The most beautiful time of the year to take pictures of the forest is Autumn.
Then you certainly find me in the forests.......

Don't be scared of the forest, they just look scary sometimes, and don't mention the animals inside :D

Macro and Close up

Lately I discovered that Macro photography is something that is really a challenge.
It makes me see more things in life, even the smallest Ant I notice on a flower.

This is a kind of photography that asks for a good eye and for someone with a lot of patience, which I also don't have every day :-)

Mijn visie

Waarom ben ik aan Fotografie begonnen? Het is eigenlijk heel simpel.....
Alles wat ik zie in het leven, wil ik aan anderen ook laten zien. Het is niet altijd simpel, en het is ook niet zo dat mijn visie op de fotografie niet noodzakelijk synoniem staat met wat ik persoonlijk mooi vind in een foto.

Ik wil hier meer verduidelijken wat ik wil terug vinden in een foto. Het is ook niet aan mij om te zeggen of een foto goed is of niet, gewoon moet er enig gevoel aanwezig zijn waardoor men het moment kan terug vinden waarin de foto getrokken is, men moet de foto kunnen voelen en met momenten zelfs bijna kunnen aanraken, rieken of zelfs proeven......dat is voor mij een geslaagde foto!

Het is een gevoelskwestie en geen exacte wetenschap. Men mag nog zo veel berekeningen maken ivm de foto, als er geen gevoel in zit, straalt het niets uit.
Het is een uitdrukking van jezelf, je innerlijke!

Foto's hoeven niet persé super scherp te zijn, onscherpe beelden of die zogenaamde gebreken kunnen soms een extra waarde meegeven waardoor ze het beeld juist sterker maken : zoals in een Café of op een 'Rock concert'. Het hangt van het moment af en hoe men zich voelt en gedraagt en hoe goed je op dat moment alles onder controle hebt, meestal worden deze gebreken bewust toegepast.

Portretten kunnen serieus weergegeven worden of met humor, dit hangt totaal van jezelf af. Inspiratie is hier ook de boodschap! Je foto's zullen uiten hoe jij bent en doet, ook het gevoel dat jij naar een ander toe geeft.

Een Fotograaf kan men altijd in zijn foto's herkennen!

Superduur materiaal wil ik niet en kan ik ook niet. Ik ben begonnen met de Nikon D80. De meeste foto's hier zijn dan ook met deze getrokken. deze week zal ik namelijk de nieuwe D300 van Nikon gaan kopen en hoop hiermee nog beter kwaliteit te leveren aan mijn foto's.
Ik weet dat ik met mijn fotografie financieel nooit rijk zal worden. Daarvoor werk ik niet commercieel genoeg.
Bij elke opdracht laat ik mij meeslepen met de omstandigheden, het personage, de omgeving, het moment en ga ik er volledig op in. Als de opdracht af is, ben ik tevreden, gelukkig maar leeg.
Om dan opnieuw op te laden heb ik tijd nodig, ik wil immers met volle goesting aan een nieuwe uitdaging beginnen. Met een heldere geest, fris, vol inspiratie en nieuwe ideeën.
Mijn grootste schrik is de massaproductie, uit angst om in een patroon te hervallen, te werken vanuit een automatisme.

Alles moet wijken voor het gewenste eindresultaat.
Met deadlines kan ik moeilijk overweg. Alles heeft bij mij de tijd nodig om te rijpen, het idee te crieeren en zich te ontwikkelen om zo het gewenste resultaat te bekomen en duurt dit langer dan voorzien: hetzij zo, als het resultaat er maar is!

Architecture

Something that looks not that interesting to me, but mostly there is so much history in it that it becomes interesting and it gives me some kind of satisfaction when I still can capture an old beautiful building like the Trainstation of Antwerp.

Belgium has a lot of beautiful buildings and also churches where people sometimes ask me if that is their own church :-) Funny how people see different things.....
I still have to visit many beautiful architecturel places, but I'm not planning to give up my site here :-)

Salve Mater

Tha ancient psychiatric hospital for woman in Lovenjoel near Brussels, is waiting to be transformed into a luxury residential village.

Meanwhile, the central building, former administrative center and monastery of "The sisters of charity" has been transformed into the temporary studio of "Pascal Baetens". Since 2003 he has been here creating not only his commercial assignments and Photography workshops, but also a remarkeble body of artistic sessions that are based upon the history and vibrations of the place.

The Mountains are always getting higher and higher when you drive further into this country....
The landscapes become very dreamy and imaginary.
The weather is also unpredictable, so keep that in mind when you travel to Austria!

I can certainly recommend to start your hiking tours in the morning. Never make your calculations in km but in hours, I saw that happening that some people got surprised about the distances in the mountains.

Again, think about your rain protection material for the camera and lenses.

This is a collection of places who are hidden and ready to discover. I call them 'Hidden Places', because it's hard to find them or difficult to reach. I always say "Look and you will see"....
