Mijn visie

Waarom ben ik aan Fotografie begonnen? Het is eigenlijk heel simpel.....
Alles wat ik zie in het leven, wil ik aan anderen ook laten zien. Het is niet altijd simpel om dit met echte gevoelens vast te leggen.

Het is niet aan mij om te zeggen of een foto goed is of niet, gewoon moet er enig gevoel aanwezig zijn waardoor men het moment kan terug vinden waarin de foto getrokken is. Mijn doel is dat men mijn foto's moet kunnen voelen en met momenten zelfs bijna kunnen aanraken, rieken of zelfs proeven......dat is voor mij een geslaagde foto!

Het is geen exacte wetenschap. Men mag nog zo veel berekeningen maken ivm de foto, als er geen gevoel in zit, straalt het niets uit.
Het is een uitdrukking van jezelf, je innerlijke!

Foto's hoeven niet persé super scherp te zijn, onscherpe beelden of die zogenaamde gebreken kunnen soms een extra waarde meegeven waardoor ze het beeld juist sterker maken : zoals in een Café of op een 'Rock concert'. Het hangt van het moment af en hoe men zich voelt en gedraagt en hoe goed je op dat moment alles onder controle hebt, meestal worden deze gebreken bewust toegepast.

Mijn foto's zullen altijd uiten hoe ik ben, ook het gevoel dat ik naar een ander toe geef of naar die plaats, bepaalt hoe de foto wordt.

Een Fotograaf kan men altijd in zijn foto's herkennen!

Superduur materiaal wil ik niet en kan ik ook niet. Ik ben begonnen met de Nikon D80. Veel van de foto's hier zijn dan ook met deze getrokken. Ongeveer een jaar geleden heb ik mij de Nikon D300 aangeschaft en ben heel tevreden over de kwaliteit van de foto's.
Ik weet dat ik met mijn fotografie financieel nooit rijk zal worden. Daarvoor werk ik niet commercieel genoeg.
Bij elke opdracht laat ik mij meeslepen met de omstandigheden, het personage, de omgeving, het moment en ga ik er volledig op in. Als de opdracht af is, ben ik tevreden, gelukkig maar leeg.
Om dan opnieuw op te laden heb ik tijd nodig, ik wil immers met volle goesting aan een nieuwe uitdaging beginnen. Met een heldere geest, fris, vol inspiratie en nieuwe ideeën.
Mijn grootste schrik is de massaproductie, uit angst om in een patroon te hervallen, te werken vanuit een automatisme.

Alles moet wijken voor het gewenste eindresultaat.
Met deadlines kan ik moeilijk overweg. Alles heeft bij mij de tijd nodig om te rijpen, het idee te crieeren en zich te ontwikkelen om zo het gewenste resultaat te bekomen en duurt dit langer dan voorzien: hetzij zo, als het resultaat er maar is!

Macro and Close up

I discovered that Macro photography is something that is really a challenge.
It makes me see more things in life, even the smallest Ant I notice on a flower.

This is a kind of photography that asks for a good eye and for someone with a lot of patience, which I also don't have every day :-)

Trees are like people, soms trees don't get along and some trees do very much.
The look of the Forest is never the same.
Trees can trick you too :-)
This is a collection which I find are worthy to put on the net and to be showed to the world instead of rotten away on my computer.

The most beautiful time of the year to take pictures of the forest is Autumn.
Then you certainly find me in the forests.......

Don't be scared of the forest, they just look scary sometimes, and don't mention the animals inside :D

Castle build in 1449
Abandoned in 1992

The history of the castle starts in the early 11th century. The first building was a donjon. The donjon is fully Roman and was built to rule and protect four strategic ancient Roman roads. The tower served as a prison; there are still iron rings in the basement today. In 1449 a chapel was added to the donjon, and later more buildings formed the castle as it is today.

The tower is very rare. It consists of dozens of metal tubes through which the sparrows fly in and out. But they will never fly out. Instead, they'll end up on the master’s plate.

In the 19th century the donjon was used as an inn for the farmers who came to pay their lease.
During the First World War the Germans, who destroyed and stole a great deal of treasures and artwork, occupied the castle.

Besides the castle, the stables, a house for the priest there is also a swimming pool, a tennis field and a huge park.
In 1992 the last owner left the castle. It has been sold by a real-estate company. Plans for renovation are made, but the castle is getting worser every year.

Eens de trots van de Belgische staalindustrie, hoogovencomplex Forges de Clabecq (1888),
is een groot en zeer indrukwekkende locatie waar 108 jaar lang staal is gefabriceerd.
Ooit werkten hier 6000 mensen.
De risico’s en gevaren waren groter dan in de mijnen. Gemiddeld waren er per jaar twee doden en duizenden gewonden te betreuren.
In de jaren ’80 liet men nog electrofilters installeren om de uitstoot van stof op te vangen hierdoor ving men 7000 kg stof per dag op.
Gedurende de voorafgaande 100 jaar is al dit stof gewoon over de streek uitgestrooid.
De staalarbeiders wasten zich met water uit het nabij gelegen kanaal dat zo zwaar vervuild was dat er geen enkele vis in voor kwam.

Ook leden veel arbeiders aan kanker. Om de totale ontmoediging en depressie te vermijden werden de arbeiders door de dokters aan het werk gezet.
Door grote financiële problemen in de jaren ’90, gevolgd door grote vakbondsstakingen, ging het bedrijf uiteindelijk in 1996 failliet.
Nu ligt het zwaar vervuilde terrein er stil en verlaten bij en word het door de natuur overgenomen.
Dit terrein word zwaar bewaakt, zelf heb ik moeten op de vlucht slaan tijdens mijn shoot en heb daarbij mijn enkel omgeslaan!

L'Hippodrome de la fortune

In my whole life I always knew horseraces. I grew up with it at oostende. This is not the racetrack of oostende, but somewhere else where the glory is almost forgotten. There were still horseraces untill 2004 at this place. then the building was further used for party's etc....
Tiercé franco belge ended bancrupt and so for this is a piece of history that dies with it. The place was shut down in 2007 and is now standing there meaningless. a shame, I could still feel the excitement of gambling within this place when Photographing.
I hope you enjoy and feel the excitement like i do of a gone glory.....almost forgotten.

Car cemetery

Deep into the woods

This Car cemetery deep into the woods of the deepest ardennes is well hidden. It's a real graveyard of beautiful and rusted cars from the 50's and 60's. Walking and climbing next to the cars has a strange feeling. a feeling that once someone drove these cars who where once shiny and the proudness of young men and perhaps women.
In fact most of these abandoned cars are from former soldiers located by a nearby but vanished military base. After the second world war the returning soldiers must have left these cars with the local people. After some time the cars where dumped into the woods......the result of this action you can see on these photos.

It's a shame to see that most of the logos and dashboards are stolen from the cars. I also believe that people do use these parts for reparing there own oldtimers. some parts and materials don't excist anymore. It's certainly not a reason to hurt these precious beauties. Once they where glorious and deserve to be left alone so they can go piecefully and preserve there memories.......

Take only photographs, don't touch anything, leave nothing but footprints

Gothic/victorian

This was the first shoot on my own, pretty scary........The model had her own cloths and i did the hair.
I wanted to create a fantasy look here and worked it a bit out in photoshop afterwarts. her boyfriend showed up after a while and was wearing some victorian clothes, so that was my second model :-)

St. Jozefsheim

In 1909 the brothers of the Franciscan Order "vom Heiligen Kreuz" came to Nordrhein Westfalen and builded the St. Jozefsheim. The site with church, offices, school and two other buildings were ready in 1913. About 600 mentally and physically disabled people were living in the monastery. But after a stop of financial help from the government the order had to leave the buildings. The last brother left the monastery in 23 May 1937.

In 1939 a new law stated that every disabled new born should be reported to the government. The disabled; Childs and also older kids were taken in institutes. The government, the national socialists were heading to the WWII to create the third Reich. The race purification program killed more than 200.000 people and also in St. Jozefsheim people were killed. The “Schutzengelhaus" from the Franciscans was rebuilt to this kind of “death” institute. The institute gave place to 200 beds. More than 30 children were killed during these years in this institute. In July 1943 the institute leaves St Jozefsheim and the remaining 183 children were transported to other institutes.

In 1952 the buildings were expropriate from the Nazis and was sold back to the Franciscan order. But only several years later, in 1955 it was sold again, now to the English who used the buildings for almost 40 years.

The English connected two older building with some new ones and a military hospital was born. The monastery became a modern hospital with two operation rooms, out patient departments and even a psychiatric department.

From 10 September 1963 the site is used again as a school. The English build new parts for a gym and a canteen. In the Kent School 1400 kids were teached. 270 kids stayed there on the boarding school. The other pupils were transported to the school by bus; everyday 50 busses drove to the Kent School. Even a special bus station was added to the site.

In 1992 the school closed and the buildings were for sale again. They even came on E-bay, an online marketplace. The last few years there been some emergency restorations in the building to keep them from falling apart. There are no future plans for this beautiful site.
